Description
RAF Blue Barathea Fabric
RAF Blue Barathea is a traditionally worsted wool fabric. Woven from 100% merino wool, this fabric is naturally soft. Being pure wool, these fabrics are good for the environment too. Making them an ideal choice, for turning into eco-aware fashion and clothing.
All the fabrics in this range, have a defined twill weave. Subsequently, the texture of the fabric, allows it to recover naturally. As a result clothing and apparel made from this fabric are supple, quickly returning to their shape. Furthermore, the 100% Merino wool, provides designers with a durable and breathable fibre, that can wick moisture away from the body. This helps to prevent odour forming, depriving odour forming bacteria the moisture they need to grow.
The fabrics in this range are available in two distinct weights and various colours, making Barathea the perfect choice for elegant, highly tailored garments.
About RAF Blue
RAF Blue, also known as Air Force blue (RAF), is a medium azure blue. It stems from the blue uniforms issued to the newly formed British Royal Air Force in 1920, who then influenced the design of the uniforms of other air forces around the world. The blue is still in use today in some RAF uniforms and the Royal Airforce Ensign.
What are Worsted Fabrics?
Worsted fabrics get their name from the village of Worstead in Norfolk. Firstly the wool is spun into worsted yarn. Importantly this yarn must have straight fibres. After that, the yarn is then woven into cloth, using either a twill or plain weave. As a result, the fabrics characteristically have a coarser texture but are lightweight and flexible.

Colour Variations of Woollen Fabrics
This 100% merino wool fabric is a natural material and colour variation is evidence of the natural origin of the material. Therefore the product colour is only indicative, as it is not possible to assure consistency of colour in a natural product due to the natural colour of raw wool and absorption of dyes. Colour matching cannot be guaranteed on shipments. The variation will be more pronounced beyond the normal commercial range.
