Baize is a fantastic material for use in modern and traditonal kitchen design, thanks to its hardwaring nature.
Bespoke Kitchen Design
Bespoke kitchen design, build and fitout are always going to be a luxury, with potential costs in the tens of thousands of pounds.
This is with good reason. The cost of designing a bespoke kitchen so that it is a functional work place, while meeting a client’s brief and aesthetic expectations, will already come at a price. Even before any of the cabinets have begun to be made.
Materials Used for Custom Made Kitchens
Custom made kitchens will rely on the work of cabinet makers. Either to make wooden carcases for the cupboards and drawers, through to the finished surfaces. If the design incorporates a lot of exposed wood, it will most likely be a wood with a beautiful colour and figure, such as oak, ash or walnut.
These woods are generally expensive due to the quality of their finish, beautiful colours and exquisite grain pattern. Naturally, in a kitchen, there are many other materials to consider, due to the nature of the workspace. Therefore, any exposed wooden elements will be designed, so that they visually harmonise with materials such as metal, stone or man made composites.
Using Baize for Kitchen Design
Baize is an excellent fabric for lining kitchen drawers. Customers have purchased baize from us for just this purpose, primarily to line cutlery drawers.
Why Use Baize?
It is a great fabric for this purpose, as it helps to protect expensive cutlery. Secondly it also deadens the noise of the cutlery being returned to, or removed from, the drawer. Furthermore, baize and wood complement each other very well, adding class and elegance to any project. Additionally, baize is incredibly hardwearing, so will stand up to everyday hustle and bustle of a busy family kitchen.
Further Uses
Another use is to line the interiors of other pieces of dining furniture. The interior of this one off dining table detailed below, was lined with baize to provide a surface for playing games on. Similarly baize can be used to protect wooden surfaces from rubbing or knocking against one another.
A Versatile Fabric
This is a highly versatile fabric. Much favoured for the lining of furniture, cabinets, writing desks, display cases, gun cases and instrument cases. Judicious use of baize in a kitchen, will complement the fine craftsmanship and materials used and add a touch of luxuriousness and surprise, while being hardwearing and durable.
