Musical instruments are beautiful. The fabric used to line an instrument case should protect and show off the beauty of your chosen instrument.
Which Fabrics are Good for Instrument Case Lining?
One of the best fabrics for lining musical instrument cases is baize – a high wool or pure wool content fabric. More often than not most people associate baize as a covering for pool, snooker or billiards tables or covering playing card tables.
The truth is baize is brilliant for those uses, but it’s also particularly good for lining boxes and cases, that will contain delicate or precious things.
Many will think of velvet as a lining material for musical instrument cases, but baize – especially those made from pure merino wool – offers a hardwearing and equally gentle fabric for the job.
Naturally Scratch Free
Pure merino wool baize fabrics are the most suitable for lining or repairing instrument cases. Thanks to the soft merino wool, it doesn’t scratch highly polished materials, be they wood, metal or plastic.
