What is Pilot Cloth?

Pilot Cloth is a fabric with nautical origins. Traditionally made into jackets for mariners, this heavy, tightly woven fabric was ideal for life at sea. Pilot cloth is inherently tough and most importantly for sailors, windproof. The jackets made from the cloth became known as p jackets or pea jackets, specifically because of this cloth.

With its suitability to life on the open sea, being hardwearing and windproof, this cloth lends itself today, to outerwear. Furthermore, the merino wool gives this cloth added warmth and brings with it the advantages of breathability and wicking, that natural fibres excel at.

Colour Variations of Woollen Fabrics

This 100% merino wool fabric is a natural material and colour variation is evidence of the natural origin of the material. Therefore the product colour is only indicative, as it is not possible to assure consistency of colour in a natural product due to the natural colour of raw wool and absorption of dyes. Colour matching cannot be guaranteed on shipments. The variation will be more pronounced beyond the normal commercial range.
